Fashion Azalea Features
The Fashion Azalea is an evergreen shrub with fairly large and slightly elongated leaves. Mature plants display dark green foliage while new growth is often copper in appearance. The shrub, if left to grow naturally, will grow to a height and width of 5-6 feet. Beautiful, brightly colored pink blooms cover the shrub all throughout the spring season.
When planting your Azalea be sure you have the right location and conditions for your new plants to thrive. Planting time: Spring and Fall are ideal times to plant Azaleas. However, if you avoid freezing and extremely hot temperatures you can plant any time of the year. Sun: Full sun, part sun or part shade. Soil: Be sure your soil is well-drained and acidic. If you have alkaline soil, be sure to amend your soil. To acidify your soil amend with compost, elemental sulfur, or use fertilizers specific for acid loving plants. Mulching with pine straw or pine bark will help over time as they begin to break down, but are not an immediate solution. To improve drainage in something like a heavy clay soil, add compost and be sure to loosen up the soil well before planting. Fertilizer: Choose a fertilizer for acid loving plants. Fertilize in late winter or early spring to give the upcoming blooms a boost. Pruning: You don’t need to prune azaleas, but pruning after they are done blooming can help encourage a bushier growth and renew an older plant.
The Southern Charm Azalea can be used in a variety of different ways. It is most useful as a property border or hedge. The beautiful blossoms will attract so much attention! Not only are the colored blooms phenomenal, but the evergreen nature of this shrub allows it to remain a full hedge in the winter as well. Use it in mass planting or as a foundation or patio planting. Use as a lone specimen and add splashes of color where it is needed. Wherever you decide to plant this charming shrub, it will certainly be a delightful addition.
