When planting your Pampas Grass choose the best location for this plant to thrive. Be sure to plant your Pampas Grass in growing zones 7 to 11. Give this grass plenty of room to grow. The mature width is about 6-8 feet. This grass grows best in full sun, but tolerates part shade. Pampas Grass is adaptable to a variety of soil as long as the soil is well drained.
Water deeply once or twice weekly when newly planted to help the roots grow properly. After establishment (about 3 months or so) Pampas Grass is drought tolerant and only rarely needs water. Water thoroughly in extreme heat, especially in the first summer. Fertilize with a slow release, balanced fertilizer in spring for optimal growth. Prune Pampas Grass to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges.
Pampas Grass is extremely hardy as well as pest and disease resistant. It is also deer, rabbit, pollution, wind and salt tolerant.
