Delta Blues™ Chastetree Care
Be sure you choose the right location and have the appropriate conditions for your new Delta Blues Chastetree to thrive. Vitex are easy to grow and don't require much maintenance at all.
Prefer full sun, but can tolerate light shade and are adaptable to any well-draining soil. Add a 2-3 inch layer of mulch to keep in moisture and protect the roots. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk as this increases the chances of pests and disease. Vitex should be watered deeply about 2 times per week after planting for about 3 months. After this establishment period, water deeply about once weekly when conditions are dry. The Delta blue are drought tolerant once established. Fertilize with our slow release fertilizer in early spring and when planting to give your tree a boost and help it achieve the best blooms. They do not require pruning, but if needed, prune when they are dormant to remove any dead, dying, or crowded branches. Pruning back to the ground yearly is a great way to keep you Vitex looking fresh and full. Flowers bloom on new wood so you won't lose blooms with heavy pruning.
