When to prune flowering trees?

Spring Flowering Trees like Flowering Plum, Crabapple, Dogwood, Redbud, Magnolia, and Flowering Cherry trees, such as the Yoshino Cherry Tree and Kwanzan Cherry Tree, should be pruned right after blooming. Summer Flowering Trees like Crape Myrtles should be pruned in late winter or early spring when they are dormant. Pruning to remove dead, broken, or diseased branches can be done at any time.

When to plant flowering trees?

Spring and fall are the best times to plant Ornamental Flowering Trees in most parts of the US. For areas with mild summers or mild winters these can be excellent times to plant as well.

When do flowering trees bloom?

Redbuds, Flowering Pear trees, Deciduous Magnolias, Dogwood Trees and Ornamental Cherry trees are the earliest spring bloomers. Crape Myrtle trees and the Evergreen Magnolia Trees, Southern and Little Gem, bloom from late spring through summer. What are the best dwarf flowering trees?

There are many Small Flowering Trees for containers, urban yards, and tight spaces in any landscape. Crape Myrtles are fast growing flowering trees and many varieties, including the Magic series and the Black Diamond collection, grow to less than 15 feet tall. Magnolia trees like Jane and Royal Star are fragrant flowering trees that have a mature size between 10 and 15 feet. Ornamental trees like Ruby Falls Redbud, Rising Sun Redbud, Double Purple Hibiscus, and Double Red Hibiscus tree stay under 10 feet.
