The Crimson Fire Loropetalum is a delightful, compact shrub that provides red color all year-round. The deep, ruby-red foliage fades from red to dark burgundy, providing color for all those little spaces that need a little extra pizazz! Spring gives way to beautiful, fringed, hot pink flowers that are irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds. This variety stays much smaller than the Ruby Loropetalum. It is considered a dwarf variety.

Only reaching a height of 2-3’, this shrub is ideal for small spaces! The stunning colors of the foliage provide a crimson fire color that will be unforgettable, especially when the pin-wheeled, neon pink flowers start to bloom. Plant the Crimson Fire Loropetalum anytime of the year. Just take care to water more often when planting in summer.

This loropetalum thrives in full to part sun and is adaptable, but prefers slightly acidic, moist but well-drained soil. Water thoroughly when planted. Provide a deep watering once or twice per week until established. Once established, the Crimson Fire Loropetalum is fairly drought tolerant and only need water during dry spells. They do tend to flower better in a soil that is kept slightly moist. Add 2-3 inches of mulch when planting. Mulch will protect the roots in extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist. Fertilize in spring with a slow release, balanced fertilizer like the one we carry. No pruning is necessary. However, Loropetalum can tolerate heavy pruning if you prefer. After your bush is done flowering is the best time to prune. This shrub does flower on old wood so avoid heavy pruning in winter or early spring.

The Crimson Fire Loropetalum is a great shrub to use as an accent plant, foundation plant, or even to use in a container. The compact and mounding habit of this shrub allows it to stay small, but don’t let the size fool you because the color this shrub displays begs for attention.

Plant 3 in a slight curve under a window and frame each side with a Emerald Arborvitae. Then Plant a Gold Mop Cypress in the middle of the cove of Loropetalum for a colorful effect.

Or add some Dianthus to the front of the Loropetalum. They will really pull the dark reds out of this variety making it a big hit!

Since this type of Loropetalum is dwarf, its great for making small, accent hedges! They stay red, are low maintenance, and are a unique substitution for the typical green hedge.
